The DDR Museum offers you a hands-on experience of everyday life in a state long gone, the life in the German Democratic Republic.

With the permanent exhibition "Everyday Life of a Past State at Your Fingertips", the DDR Museum forms the third building block of the scientific reappraisal of the former East Germany alongside the Wall exhibitions and Stasi memorials. In collaboration with historians under the direction of Dr. Stefan Wolle, the museum has set itself the task of preserving an important piece of German cultural history and making it accessible to younger generations. Visitors are invited to expand their knowledge, rethink any existing clichés and experience history at first hand.

Interactive exhibits to take part in

The museum is designed as a family museum and offers children and young people in particular a wide range of opportunities to immerse themselves interactively in history. Among other things, there is a Trabi driving simulation, interactive games and original GDR toys that can and should be played with. Another highlight is the fully furnished five-room apartment, in which visitors can move around freely.

Special exhibitions at the DDR Museum

In addition, the DDR Museum highlights certain aspects of life in the GDR in regularly changing exhibitions - for example on art and music, the Trabi, peace movements and much more. The museum also offers themed tours in numerous languages, outdoor tours, workshops, readings, games and other activities.
